Harbour Cruise

In a lovely morning, we played an interesting game called “River Monk” in the English lesson! However, during the game, two students bumped into each other and got hurt. Luckily, they didn’t’ get hurt seriously and we continued the game.

After the lesson, we cruised around the city and I think it is definitely the best way to experience the beautiful Waitemata Harbour in Auckland. In addition, with the complimentary afternoon tea from the friendly crew, it was a relaxing and memorable experience to all of us!

At last, I would like to give thanks to the nice weather we had on that day, otherwise, we couldn’t see the most beautiful scenery in New Zealand!

Kelly Tarlton's Aquarium

Today, we went to the Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium. I think the owner of this aquarium is Kelly Tarlton, so, that’s where the name came from.

When I stood in front of the aquarium, I thought it was so boring and I would have nothing to do inside. I walked into the aquarium with no expectation.

First, we walked into a dark and mysterious tunnel, then, we saw some light ad many penguins came into our eyes. They were so cute. They jumped into the water, ate the ice, slept on the ice and ran around. We felt so excited about it. Then, we walked across a whirling tunnel with different kinds of fish.

I have learnt what the penguins usually do and what the jellyfish eat. They are lovely and amiable!

Today, I woke up at 7:30a.m. I had cereal for breakfast. After breakfast, I went to school. In the lesson, I learnt some words about the sea and famous people in New Zealand.

In the afternoon, I had lunch on the bus while we were heading to Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium. I saw lots of sea animals but I think the aquarium is rather small. Penguins are surely my favorite because they are so adorable!

I was so tired today but I had lots of fun in this trip. I really enjoyed it!

Buddy Programme (Day 2)

We had two days Buddy program. On the first day, I felt uncomfortable to be with a foreign student, so, we didn’t talk much. It’s very embarrassing and a bit boring as we had physics and history lessons. Today I felt a little bit better because we had biology lesson which is a subject that I am studying in Hong Kong. After that, my buddy, Summer Dawn Skelton, showed me around the campus as she didn’t’ have lesson in the last period. We talked more than yesterday and I really like her because she is very nice! At last, I wrote a letter and gave her a bottle of perfume as gift to thank for her hospitality. She said that I was sweet and she really appreciated that.

After the lessons, we went for grocery shopping. After that our host mum, Melissa, and I picked up her daughters, Karianne and Rheanna, at school and both excitedly introduced their school to me. I really enjoyed being with them because they were funny and humorous. They always tell jokes and play tricks on us. I really love them!

In the evening, Karianne went to our room and played with us. We took few videos while we were playing but Karianne always asked "Are you videoing me?" She is so adorable! We had pasta for dinner. It’s YUMMY! Then, we played card game after dinner. Melissa always won, but I enjoyed spending the fun time with them. I love this host family!

Buddy Programme (Day 1)

Today we had split class and I was sent to a ‘better’ class as my English result was good. But what I was really looking forward to is the Buddy programme in the afternnon. My buddy is Sam. He is a member of the school basketball team. I needed to go to lessons with him in the whole afternoon. I found that the lessons are very different from Hong Kong. Students can use their cell phones in class freely. After lunch, we had the Physical Education lesson in the auditorium. Unlike the PE lessons we used to have in Hong Kong, they don’t do exercise or sports but learn the theory. And I am so glad to have this opportunity to study in this class.

Today, we had great fun on learning about the cultures and history about New Zealand in our English lesson.

After the English class, we paired up with our buddies. I got two buddies called Nathan and Jordan. They are very friendly and introduced their friends to me. I met lots of friend at this school.

I feel privileged to be a one-day student in Whangaparao College and I will definitely remember this one-in-a-life experience!

Although I was assigned to a weaker class, Ms Kathy, the English teacher, prepared many amusing activities for us.

After the English class, we met our buddy. I used to think that foreigners are very tall but when I first met my buddy, I found that I am taller than my buddy and I felt a bit happy about it. My first lesson was Arts. My heart sank as I am extremely weak in drawing. At last, I only drew two shells and I thought they were very ugly.

Then, we had our lunch with friends for 30 minutes. After that, we had Maths lesson. It was as easy as the Form 1 level in Hong Kong. All in all, the teaching method in New Zealand is extremely different from Hong Kong; especially, students can play phones in the lessons.
